Attendance Policy

The KenTon Summer High School and 8th Grade Skill-Building Programs consist of just 22 instructional days. With such a limited timeframe, it is essential that students attend consistently to maximize their learning and make meaningful academic progress. With that in mind:

• Students must be on time for each instructional block.

• Students should carry their home school or state I.D. while in attendance at  summer school. 

• Students who misses more than 3 classes of remedial instructional time will be denied credit for that course, and  their enrollment in that course will be terminated.  

• Students taking Economics, Government, and Health as "new courses," may only accrue one absence to earn the 45 clock hours of instruction needed to earn academic credit. 

• Student time out of the classroom will be documented to ensure they meet State Education Department requirements:

A. Any student who is tardy more than 10 minutes (without a pass from the Main Office) will be charged a half absence. 

B. Students out of the classroom for more than 10 minutes will be charged a half absence. 

C. Students often out of the classroom for less than 10 minutes, creating a regular pattern and causing disruptions, may also receive a half an absence.

D. Students violating the code of conduct will be sent home for the day and receive a full absence. 

• Summer School does not distinguish between excused and unexcused absences- regardless of the reason.
