It is recommended that your child reads independently or with a parent/guardian every night for at least 15-20 minutes. We will take the first quarter to find good fit books, set reading goals, and learn to respond to our reading. With that said, please help your student read at home.
Besides this, I will send a homework packet on Monday that isn’t due until the last school day of the week. This packet will include a small amount of math and reading skills that they have already practiced in class. Your child may also have to occasional bring home class work, if they did not have the chance to finish their work in the allotted class time. If this situation occurs there will be a note in their planner to let you know.
If you would like any additional practice pages to reinforce concepts at home, do not hesitate to ask! I would be more than happy to provide you with practice pages to work with your child at home.
Planners are a daily communication tool between school and home. Students will write about their learning at the end of the day to give them an outline to share with their family. PLEASE have a family member SIGN THE PLANNER NIGHTLY. I will in turn check planners each morning to look for any notes from family members. Communication is very important.
📢 Students can find a PDF copy of their weekly homework in Google classroom, should they find themself in need of an additional copy at anytime throughout the week. 😉🖨️

We use a standards based grading system in grades three through five. This will be similar to the system that was already in place from Kindergarten through second grade. There will be a 4-3-2-1 scoring guide for all assignments and assessments.
4 – Student has mastered the standard. Student demonstrates a full understanding of the concepts involved.
3 – Student has a firm grasp of the standard, and has demonstrated almost full understanding of the concepts involved.
2– Student has demonstrated some concept understanding of the standard, but still displays some confusion and has many errors.
1- Student has demonstrated a weak or no conceptual understanding of the standard.
