Math classes are graded on a weighted scale:
50% Tests
30% Homework/Classwork Assignments
20% Quiz/Notes/Participation
Classwork: An assignment will be given with each lesson. Each will be around 20 problems or less, and students will be given class time to work on each assignment. Most assignments will be online on our math program SAVVAS. This program will allow students to continue to work on assignments until they fully understand the concept.
Quizzes: Short quizzes to assess students' understanding of the material will be given throughout the chapter. Most quizzes are 10 points. Most of the time, showing work will be expected and graded. Teacher discretion on points awarded. Retakes will be allowed for quizzes. Students will be able to use their own notes on quizzes. Quizzes MUST be completed in class.
Tests: At the end of each topic (chapter), a test will be given. Tests are in Delta Math (online program) and ONE attempts will be given. Showing work will be expected and graded. Generally, there will be no notes available for tests. Tests are designed to completed in one class period and MUST be taken inside the classroom.
To prepare students for the tests, I will provide a practice test in Delta Math.
If a student wants to take a second attempt on their test:
Practice Test must be 100%.
Schedule a time during Bulldog Zone (after school) or Seminar (Bulldog Time) the week following the test.
Students can earn full points back for each question they missed.
Delta Math: Delta Math is an online program. Occasionally students will be asked to work in this program to review material and practice important skills. These assignments may be given a window of time to be completed, and the expectations and due dates will always be posted on the board and in Google Classroom.
End-Of-Course (EOC) Exam: At the end of the school year, students will take the EOC, a state-wide test.
Notes: We take notes during class. All notes will be available to students on Delta Math and in addition they will have access to videos to help with understanding. Completed notes will be posted on Google Classroom as well. This can be a great resource if students are struggling with a concept.
Participation: Students earn points for actively contributing ideas, collaborating respectfully, coming prepared, and clearly explaining their reasoning, with teacher observations, peer feedback, and self-reflection helping track progress.
All assignments must be turned in by the Topic (Chapter) Test. No assignments can be turned in after that date.
While I believe it is so important that students are at school every day, I understand that sometimes absences cannot be avoided. Assignments will be posted for students on google classroom. If we are taking notes, the videos will be uploaded to google classroom as well. If students miss a test, they will be expected to make that up upon their return.
Parents may access google classroom using your child's log in information.
