This approach utilizes the “module” as the generating force in your painting. A module is a shape (any shape), which is used over and over again in such a way as to create an overall patterned composition. This approach will undoubtedly lead you in a more controlled direction in which the painting is more or less the result of working from a predetermined plan. The technique used should probably be similar to the hard-edged approach used by artists such as Mondrian and Kenneth Noland. Color often becomes the defining factor in the success of paintings such as these.
The Bauhaus is a German artistic movement which lasted from 1919-1933. Its goal was to merge all artistic mediums into one unified approach, that of combining an individual’s artistry with mass production and function. Bauhaus design is often abstract, angular, and geometric, with little ornamentation.
