Introduction

In February and April, students of KSD and Liceo Russell participated in a project that was organized by Europe, called Erasmus+.  In this project, we were going to do some experiments to study the difference between the air and water quality of Italy and Belgium.

The project

The intention of our schools was to compare the air and water quality from two different countries, and to get to know each other plus both of our cultures. That's why Erasmus+,  an European organisation, gave us this opportunity.

There were two schools selected to do this project, Liceo Russell and KSD. Then the students who were in a scientific field were asked if they wanted to join. They were given a chance to have an educational, but also beautiful experience.

In advance

Before the project started, we all had to fill in a survey so we could match with another student. The students of Liceo Russell are all in the same class group, but the ones from KSD were all picked out out of different classes. They took part of a journey were new bonds could be formed. Prior to the trip, to get to know eachother a little, our two schools made contact and called with each other. We discussed some things and asked questions if needed.

When and where?

It took place in both Italy and Belgium. The students of Belgium first went to the city of Cles by plane. They stayed there for one schoolweek between February 18th and February 24th. Then a few months later, the Italians came to Diest, Belgium. Also for a week between April 21st and April 28th.

Why?

We were very excited to take apart of this trip to get to know other cultures, and come back to our own with more knowledge. The topic we discussed was something we weren't familiar with, so we learned a lot of new things. It's not only a learnfull experience, but you can grown as person. Another positive aspect is that in the week you stay in a different culture, you have a new routine to follow, and you may pick up some new things you like.
