Kimberly R. Curtis

Kimberly Curtis is a quirky high school English & Reading Development Teacher at the Kentucky School for the Deaf. She was born and raised in central Kentucky--Harrodsburg, KY to be exact. As an alumna of Eastern Kentucky University, she completed her Masters of Arts in Teaching Secondary English in 2018, and a Bachelors of Science in ASL Interpreter Training in 2010. She now resides near Perryville, Kentucky with her rambunctious son, loving husband, their spoiled Tennessee Walkers, and a crazy pup named Ranger.

Our goals this school year will be:


  1. We can introduce our topic in our writing.
  2. We can organize our thoughts and ideas.
  3. We can use formatting and graphics in our pieces to support our writing.
  4. We can make important connections to our world through writing.
  5. We will read, view, and experience a variety of signing and writing styles i.e. narrative, informational, epistolary, verse, etc.
  6. We will bridge as well as navigate the linguistic differences and nuances between American Sign Language (ASL) and English by learning and expanding our knowledge with both of these languages.
  7. We can strengthen our writing skills through in class practice as well as utilizing our written English skills outside of our classroom.

  6. We can strengthen our reading skills through in class practice as well as independent reading practice.

🏆Academic Bowl

As one of the co-coaches of our KSD Academic Bowl team, it is an honor to work alongside these young Colonels as they represent the Kentucky School for the Deaf. Our team did fabulous on the screening test! The Southern Regional Academic Bowl competition will be hosted at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD) in Washington, D.C. We'll be traveling February 13 - 16, 2020. GO COLONELS!
