What is Ke Kula Kiʻekiʻe o Kamehameha Hawaiʻi 1:1 Laptop Learning Program?

The program offers every student an expanded set of new learning opportunities for both collaborative and self-directed learning. With a personal laptop available for every student, students will be empowered with 21st century tools that will allow them capabilities to access global data and to allow them to develop new ideas, produce high work, communicate through multiple venues and to think and learn in new and innovative ways.


How did Ke Kula Kiʻekiʻe o Kamehameha Hawaiʻi 1:1 Laptop Program get its name?

Ke Kula Kiʻekiʻe o Kamehameha Hawaiʻi core team decided on Pāhana Kīpaepae as the 1:1 project name. The name and meaning was submitted by haumāna Welina Tong, Class of 2013, as the following: Pāhana Kīpaepae – Stone pavement or steps for entering a house, opportunity (project) to utilize these laptops as a stepping stone in order for students to attain more, in terms of their education and gaining a glimpse of the future. In accordance with the name, the location for the servicing, housing and support for this one to one project is the Hale Pāhana Kīpaepae (HPK).

When did Ke Kula Kiʻekiʻe o Kamehameha Hawaiʻi 1:1 Laptop Program get started?

In the Fall of 2011, Hope Poʻo Kumu Phil Aganus submitted the initial charter proposal that, with its approval from the Board of Trustees and the Administration of the Kamehameha Schools Kula Kiʻekiʻe, would bring technology to High School Students. Under the direction of Project Owner Hope Poʻo Kumu Phil Aganus and Project Manager, Lance Tachino, along with the Project Core Committee, this project was realized in the Fall of 2012. Finally in the fall of 2014, the Hale Pāhana Kīpaepae moved into Building 27, a central location that allowed its HPK staff to better serve students and their Kumu. In 2021, Hale Pāhana Kīpaepae was relocated to Building 17, Keku‘iapoiwa, where student activities and services would be centralized.


Who is Ke Kula Kiʻekiʻe o Kamehameha Hawaiʻi 1:1 Laptop Project Core Committee?

The project core committee was comprised of a small number of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). These individuals either represented a key project support group or provided significant input into the 1:1 laptop project work. This committee was considered to be the decision makers to share ideas, feedback and opportunities presented to this committee for approval. Below are the individuals and the areas represented:
