Grading Rubrics

All middle school courses grade with two types of assessments: formative and summative.

Formative Assessments: 20% of trimester grade
- In-class Activities: Some activities will be graded with prior notice.
- Notebooks: Randomly checked throughout the school year.
- Quizzes: One quiz per topic.
Summative Assessments: 80% of trimester grade
- Tests: One test per topic.
- Projects: One project per topic.
Late Assignments: Automatic zero points
- This includes Google Classroom assignments that were not “Turned In”.

No late work will be taken unless there is an excused absence and a note from a parent, guardian, or doctor. Excused late assignment deadlines will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Summative Reassessments

Tests

Test reassessments are possible if the first test score was a C+ grade or below. The second test opportunity will be a brand new test with new questions and the highest possible grade will be a B. Student is required to sign up for a teacher conference either during lunch, advisory, or before/after school prior to reassessment. The reassessment date will be on a case-by-case basis, but student will typically be given the option to choose within the 8-Day Cycle.

Projects

Students are given a minimum of two weeks to complete their projects including a minimum of 3 in-class work days. Students are expected to check-in regularly with me for progress and feedback to ensure a satisfactory grade can be achieved. Projects will not be given retake opportunities because ample classroom and home time will be given to complete them.
