Student Engagement and HAwaiian Identity Survey

Students were given a survey to gauge how Hawaiian Culture based projects and Project Based Learning impacted their engagement.

Survey asked numerous questions about Hawaiian identity, Hawaiian activities at school, in class, and the family. Some questions were adapted components of the HIER (Hawaiian Indigenous Education Rubric) to gauge their interpretation on how Kamehameha Schools was impacting their perception of Hawaiian self-identity

Results:

  • Students are very interested in self/ ego based projects (no surprise)
  • Students are engaged when there is personal interest/ connection
  • Mixed bag on connection with the Hawaiian Culture based component
