What does Inez use besides her music to share her culture with the audience?
Inez Barlatier sings, she plays guitar, she tells stories and now has her own band. She composes her original music using the traditions of her musical heritage as well as performing traditional songs.
In her concerts for children, Inez uses the power of her music to share the stories and history of the Ayisyen culture. She lives in Miami and when she began performing in the area, she realized that many of her concert goers (adults and children alike) did not know of the traditions of their home land—Ayiti (Haiti). She makes a point to tell traditional stories in her concerts. And to perform with dancers as well as drummers and other musicians. The band is dressed in traditional colorful costumes.
You will hear songs sung in French, African languages, English and Creole. This is the blending of the many cultures that make up the heritage of the culture.

Violin
Violin
The violin, sometimes known as a fiddle, is a wooden string instrument. It is the smallest and highest pitched instrument of the string family found in the orchestra. Most violins have a hollow wooden body.The violin typically has four strings, and is most commonly played by drawing a bow across its strings. It can also be played by plucking the strings with the fingers (pizzicato) and, in specialized cases, by striking the strings with the wooden side of the bow

Guitar
The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that typically has six strings. It is held flat against the player's body and played by strumming or plucking the strings with the dominant hand, while simultaneously pressing selected strings against frets with the fingers of the opposite hand. A finger picks may be used to strike the strings. The sound of the guitar is projected either acoustically, by means of a resonant chamber on the instrument, or amplified by an electronic pickup and an amplifier.

The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass, is the lowest-pitched member of the guitar family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four strings. The bass guitar, with its low sounding notes, is the instrument that supports the sound of an ensemble.
Percussion-Listen to many Haitian drums
With great power and presence, the drum remains Haiti’s most significant musical instrument. Not only is it the pulse of Ayisyen music, it also acts as a culturally significant tool for communication. Deeply rooted in the country’s African origins, the drum is used for both performative and symbolic dimensions of cultural communication within music and dance.

The Tumbadora, also known as Conga, is a percussion instrument of Afro-Cuban origin. These are used as hand drums and play a huge role in folk music. The drums are of three types each with a different pitch. They are elongated and allow the player either to sit or stand while playing.

A djembe or jembe )is a rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands, originally from West Africa. According to the Bambara people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying translated: everyone gather together in peace
