Social grants

The idea behind the Social Grants Project is to assist those households that due to specific vulnerabilities – resulting for example from disability, lonely parenthood, many children – were not able to avail a business development grant.

Such households – both of the refugees from Chechnya and of the local population living below the poverty line – are offered social support in form of a livestock grant. More often than not the grant consists of two milk cows, fodder and small funds for shed construction. Families are then able to sell milk and milk products and thus obtain a source of small but reliable income.

In 2009, KRDF has awarded close to 50 social grants, including 10 grants for local destitute families.
