According to Makerspaces.com, "A makerspace is a collaborative work space inside a school, library or separate public/private facility for making, learning, exploring, and sharing that uses high tech to no tech tools. These spaces are open to kids, adults, and entrepreneurs and have a variety of maker equipment including 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, soldering irons and even sewing machines."
Let's bring diversity to the Makerspaces of the nation.
When you look at Makerspaces and the experts in the spaces, often, they lack diversity. We, at the Krause Center for Innovation, would like to see a diverse workforce in these creative and collaborative work spaces.
Our Makerspace Coordinator certification program is an 18-unit certificate of achievement through the Krause Center for Innovation at Foothill College. We will give you the skills to manage and teach in a makerspace, and you'll get a state-approved certificate of achievement on completion of the program.
This program is open to residents of California who are women, especially women of color, women who have served in the military, and women with special needs (i.e., learning or physical disabilities). If you are interested in our Makerspace program but do not feel you qualify for the UniDIVersity program, please see our Makerspace Coordinator certificate program at https://www.smore.com/1du0g which is open for interested participants at Foothill College.
This donor-funded program is a ten-month program, with nine in-person training days. The rest of the instruction takes place via an online learning platform. Because it is donor-funded, the only cost to you is a non-refundable $75 fee. You will receive training and a total of 18 quarter units from Foothill College through this program, all provided to you by the generous donors to the Krause Center for Innovation.
