Resource to Support All Learners: Interactive Lectures with Google Slides
Students can choose to view a lecture synchronously, listen or read content for lecture notes asynchronously.
Barrier to Learning: Robust Internet Connectivity, Audio/Visual Quality, Ability to Engage on a Quality Device
The immediate benefit for students is that they can control the pace of their learning. Students can rewind, move their audio at a faster pace, take a break, whatever they need to manage the content of the lecture. I allow students to complete the work digitally as the original directions require, or they can take their own notes and add them as photos on the appropriate slide. Many students can easily use the device of choice, including their smartphones. I cringe at the thought of this, but at the end of the day, if the students prefer this choice, I’m happy they are using what fits their learning preferences. I also have to consider that a student's quality of internet connection may prevent them from engaging in a lecture. Giving the options upfront, allows students to plan what they need to be successful in a proactive way.
