Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR)
ACCES-VR helps people with disabilities prepare for employment, post-secondary education and community living when they leave school. ACCES-VR can provide a range of services to help eligible individuals reach an employment goal. Students should be applying for services two years prior to graduation. There is no cost to apply. All applications should be returned to Janice McQuaid, Transition Coordinator, Kings Park School District.
Some of the many services include:
Vocational Counseling
Assessment and career planning
Vocational Education (e.g. college or technical/business school)
Job readiness and job placement services
Driver evaluation training
Supported Employment
Work related books, tools, licenses, and rehab technology
Referral to outside agencies for additional supports
Benefits advisement
The criteria includes the following:
That the student has a documented and permanent disability
That the disability creates a barrier to employment
That the student can benefit from rehabilitation services
That vocational rehabilitation services are required to achieve employment
Having an IEP or 504 plan does not guarantee eligibility.
