Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR)

ACCES-VR helps people with disabilities prepare for employment, post-secondary education and community living when they leave school. ACCES-VR can provide a range of services to help eligible individuals reach an employment goal. Students should be applying for services two years prior to graduation. There is no cost to apply. All applications should be returned to Janice McQuaid, Transition Coordinator, Kings Park School District.

Some of the many services include:

  • Vocational Counseling

  • Assessment and career planning

  • Vocational Education (e.g. college or technical/business school)

  • Job readiness and job placement services

  • Driver evaluation training

  • Supported Employment

  • Work related books, tools, licenses, and rehab technology

  • Referral to outside agencies for additional supports

  • Benefits advisement

The criteria includes the following:

  • That the student has a documented and permanent disability

  • That the disability creates a barrier to employment

  • That the student can benefit from rehabilitation services

  • That vocational rehabilitation services are required to achieve employment
