Our research interests focus on regulation of energy balance and glucose homeostasis in the CNS and periphery. Our studies have focused on the role of adipose tissue vasculature and inflammation in the regulation of energy balance and glucose homeostasis connected with the hypothalamic control system. We have shown the interaction between CNS and periphery in the control of food intake and glucose regulation related to adipose tissue vasculature, and studied its underlying molecular and behavioral mechanisms. To extend our understanding of the previously unknown crosstalk between the status of adipose tissue vasculature and CNS, we have developed an integrated behavioral analysis system for evaluation of energy balance-related behavior and also established a variety of ways, such as ex vivo adipose tissue angiogenesis assay, adipose tissue vascular reactivity, and a customized software to measure adipocyte morphology with hypoxia or vascular density at the same time in the same field of image acquired from an immunohistochemical staining.
