Tier Renewal Requirements

Mandatory License Requirements for Tier 3 & Tier 4

Tier 3 license holders have 3 years to earn a minimum of 75 clock hours while tier 4 has 5 years to earn a minimum of 125 clock hours.

As part of the 75 and 125 professional development hours, the Minnesota Legislature, by statute, currently requires ALL teachers to evidence the areas shown below:

• Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies

• Reading Preparation

• Accommodations, Modification & Adaptation of Curriculum, etc.

• Key Warning Signs Mental Illness

• Suicide Prevention Training

• English Language Learners

• Cultural Competency

The KM CEU Committee requires at least 1 hour for each of the requirements except for Cultural Competency. There is no specific hour requirement; instead, all 8 components must be met.
