EDUCATION
2011-2015 PhD in medical microbiology, Life Sciences Faculty and School of Veterinary medicine, Institution of Infection and Global health (IGH), University of Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom. PhD Thesis Title ‘Infection of the ovine herpesvirus-2 in the natural host, sheep, and in the susceptible host, cattle’.
2007-2008 Higher Diploma (MSC equivalent) in molecular microbiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sulaimani, Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research (KISSR), Sulaimani- Iraq (studied in English). Dissertation Title ‘Detection and confirming of chicken infectious anaemia virus in chicken farms in Sulaimani Province by PCR for the first time’. Grade obtained 78%.
1997-2002 Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S), College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sulaimani, Sulaimani, Iraq (studied in English). Grade obtained 68.2%.
WORK EXPERIENCE
2018 – current: Part-time lecturer of clinical and principles of haematology theory and laboratory at Komar University of Science and Technology (KUST).
2016 – Current: Laboratory Manager (part-time) at Sulivetlab, Sulaimani Private Veterinary Hospital. Molecular diagnostic laboratory for diagnosis of viral and bacterial diseases of poultry and animals. Sulaimani, Kurdistan, Iraq.
2014: Facilitator for problem-based learning to veterinary undergraduate third-year students for three weeks, Liverpool University, Liverpool, UK.

HIGHLIGHTS OF PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Technical Skills
Microscopy: confocal, fluorescence and light microscopy.
Microbiology: liquid and solid culture of bacteria, isolation and transfection; preparation and purification of plasmid and bacterial chromosome, antibiotic sensitivity test. work in class II laboratory.
Molecular biology: Vector design, primers design, restriction digestions, ligations, cloning, DNA and RNA extraction, reverse transcription, conventional, real-rime and quantitative PCR, DNA purification from bacteria and tissues, DNA and RNA gel analysis, western blot, ELISA, dot blot analysis.
Histopathology: Sample collection, transportation, preparation and processing. Blood samples manipulations.Histological staining.
Immunohistology: Experience in RNA in situ hybridization.
Analytical methods: Titration, spectrophotometry and nanodrop. Skill in tissue culture. Buffers preparation and knowledge of essential laboratory managaement of chemicals and organising of the laboratory.
Other Skills
I.T.: Experience in MEGA7 bioinformatics software, good use of genetic tools used in molecular biology such as Artemis, BLAST, BoxShade, ect. Beginner user of SPSS and R software. Very good computing skills, Microsoft office, Photoshop and other common programs
Language Skills: Kurdish (mother language), English (fluent) EILTS 6.5 score in 2011, Arabic (Fluent).
Communication: Strong communication and presentation, worked confidently groups in at home and in the UK. Communicated with all of professional and academic levels, with people from diverse origins and cultures. Adapted to living abroad. Good writing skills in English. I have at least seven year experience work on virology and molecular biology. I enjoy collaborating with scientists from different disciplines to develop new skills and solve new challenges in an organized and reliable way. I am a fast-learner and highly motivated. Ongoing Reasrch Projects
- Prevalence, evaluation and genetic analysis of Chicken anaemia virus in Kurdistan poultry farms. Funded by local private private vet pratices. May 2017 -and ongoing.
- Analysis of infectious bronchitis virus structural genes (S, 3a, 3b, M, 5a, 5b, N) of viruses from recent outbreaks occurred in north Iraq, and deep sequencing. This in order to develop vaccines for current circulating isolates. Work partially done with IGH, Liverpool University, UK.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Pathogenesis of viral disease, virus vaccine development, molecular virology, one health and zoonotic diseases.
I am particularly interested in working on viruses of global importance such as avian and swine influenza virus, Ebola virus. Other important human viruses such as hepatitis viruses. Veterinary important viruses including infectious bronchitis virus in chicken, Chicken Anaemia virus, Foot and mouth disease virus.
