Vanessa -My project is a multigenerational event where people can learn and play mahjong. I think it would be fun for people of all ages and genders to learn to play mahjong, a game that has connected Jewish people socially for decades. Watch for times to come learn as you play - all you need to bring is you, everything else will be provided for you!

Jennie - My service learning project is bringing a Jewish nature component to the Kol Haverim Community. After a day of Hebrew School on some pretty weather Sundays, hopefully getting together with the Men’s Club and the House Committees, we can come together and work to get families outside. They can help plant hydrangea bushes with varieties of colors and do some cleanup to keep our congregation looking beautiful and clean! This relates to Judaism in many ways. By which we express gratitude and great thankfulness to G-d and how he has created each day and the beauty in the nature that surrounds us. Spending time outside to grow more and to keep it clean is definitely one of the best and important things to revive and continue the beauty that the Lord has created.

Sabrina - The service learning project I have chosen is to start a youth program where young people can create a stronger bond with each other, encourage Jewish values and have the ability to meet new people. It will be for anyone in 7th grade to 12th grade with meetings twice a month. This means every other week there will be a gathering where we will have fun pop-up events, oftentimes relating to Jewish values. This will be more of a democracy so the kids can pick and vote on some of the ideas for the events which I will plan. This will help bring new members to the synagogue and encourage a positive culture for the youth belonging to our synagogue. 

Saul - My service learning project will focus on introducing the idea of trope to CKH students as well as some tutoring/teaching for haftarah trope as a whole rather than specific b’nai mitzvot portions. This could inspire more haftarah/torah readers in the students. The tutoring sessions could also be open to older members of the Congregation and could foster more adept readers/portion learners for the High Holidays and in our community.
