PLEASE NOTE: Garden judging takes place on the Friday before Ag Day.
Set your garden up in the covered area along the seats in front of the whanau/ASC room.
To be eligible for Agriculture Day your plants must be planted from/after July 1st.
The longer your plants have to grow the better.
Planting at the last minute is not encouraged.
It is important that the majority of input is the child’s, from concept, through to the nurturing of their plant.
There are two garden categories
Themed Garder
This garden has to have a theme eg Fairy garden, dino-land, recycled...
It can have any plants in it and include extra props.
Edible Garden
The edible garden has to be made up of predominantly edible plants. It can include companion plants too.
General Care
Your garden needs to be well looked after.
Water it regularly to make sure it never dries out.
Make sure you have a drainage hole at the bottom of your container.
A little fertiliser or organic matter will make sure your plants stay healthy.
Make sure your garden gets enough sun so that plants grow at their optimum rate.
Check your plants regularly and watch out for slugs and snails!
Container/bin/bucket
Any container/bin/bucket will do. The more creative the better.
Make sure it is big enough to grow the plants you want.
If you are using a deep bin you could put polystyrene in the bottom to keep it light enough to move and carry.
Make sure you have your name on your bin.
Judging
PLEASE NOTE: Garden judging takes place on the Friday before Ag Day.
Set your garden up in the covered area along the seats in front of the whanau/ASC room.
Judges will judge the Themed and Edible gardens separately.
Judges can easily tell if a garden has been planted just before ag day. The more established the garden the better.
Judges will use a sheet to judge each child on
