We have taken on Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) staff development for next year which means we need to schedule some Teacher Only Days. We have allocated these on the first day of each term (in the hope of avoiding too much disruption) and the Kāhui Ako is using one of the two MOE scheduled days for their teacher only day on 1st May. In order to be open for the required 380 days, our start and end date require changing, so my apologies for this. If this is going to interfere with holiday plans you have already made, please let me know. Farewell to our leaving students All the best to the Y6 students heading off to High School. Finnian, Tilly, Caleb, Owen, Lena, Harmony-Jade, Jordin, Harlyn & Kiara, you will all be missed, as will the Little, Sowman, Breeze & Wright families who will no longer have students at our amazing little school. Don’t be strangers! We also wish Alexis and Topaz well in their new schools. Staff Update Our staffing has been confirmed for 2023. We are fortunate to be welcoming Casi Agnew to the Kea Class. Casi is an experienced teacher who comes to us from St. Mary’s. She has family in the valley, and is really looking forward to joining us next year. Casi will be at the Christmas Picnic to meet our school whānau. Maria Swinburn will be in the Pukeko Class 4 days a week and I will be in there on Friday’s. Our Teacher Aides will be Marion Krijnen in the Kea Class and Rachel Little in the Pukeko Class. Music Enrolment for 2023 Dental Care over the holidays Kawa of Care: The Summer Learning Journey will be happening again over the Christmas Break. The students in Kea Class have registered and enjoyed working on some of the activities. This would be a wonderful place to direct them to if the weather isn’t fine, or they use that dreaded ‘bored’ word. There is no pressure to complete all of the activities, but they do earn points for activities completed and blogged about and could go in the draw to win a prize. Canterbury Athletics A huge congratulations to Harlyn Cousins who represented us in the Sprints at the Canterbury Athletics and did extremely well coming in 0.06 short of placing. End of Year Reports These will be sent home with the students tomorrow, Friday 9th December Life Education - Harold’s Yellow Day - TOMORROW End of Year Celebration / Prizegiving / Year 6 Farewell / Christmas Picnic We would like to invite our school community to celebrate the wonderful year we have had at school on Tuesday 13th December from 5:30pm. This year we will be combining all the above events during the evening, so we hope you will join us. A programme is included in this newsletter. Santa will be visiting us, so we ask if families could provide a gift (one for each of your children) of no more than $10, to go in ‘Santa’s Sack’ for the students to be given on the night. We will finish with a shared Picnic tea, so ask families to bring finger food to share. Parent Questionnaire A reminder to please complete this questionnaire. The data we collect will be collated and used to help develop our strategic direction for 2023. As a school (staff and Board) we like to consult our parent community and get feedback to enable us to set our strategic priorities for 2023. Seasons Greetings to you all.. Have a safe holiday, be kind to each other & I look forward to seeing you back at school on Thursday 2nd February.
