In October, Bursa’s two main water sources, Nilüfer and Gölbaşı dams, ran dry, leading to alarming water shortages and planned water cuts across the city. As water resources decline, farmers face increasing difficulties irrigating their land, and agricultural production is at risk. The video also features insights from Doğader President Murat Demir, who explains how recent frost events and ongoing drought are impacting fruit production in Bursa, and risk analyst Serhad Çelik, who discusses how climate-related crop losses can lead to higher food prices and increased inequality.
While the video focuses on the local situation in Bursa, it also places this crisis within a global context, showing how climate change threatens food systems around the world. At the same time, it presents examples of innovative and climate-smart agricultural practices, such as vertical farming systems and advanced environmental monitoring technologies that can help reduce water use and improve sustainability.
