Hello and welcome to my counseling website!
My name is Jessy Alva, and this is my 6th year as an elementary school counselor for Knox County Schools. I work at Brickey-McCloud Elementary School on Mondays, Thursdays, and Friday, and Corryton Elementary School on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Education and Experience
I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology from The University of Tennessee in 2016. After earning this degree, I worked as an assistant site director for an after school program during the week, and with teenagers in addiction recovery on the weekends! This was a highly rewarding but challenging atmosphere to work in, which prompted me to further my education.
After this experience, I began working in special education for Knox County Schools while simultaneously working on my master's degree in Professional School Counseling at Carson-Newman University. I was grateful to get my foot in the door with Knox County Schools, and absolutely loved my time as a teaching assistant in CDC.
I completed my Master's program in May 2020, and have been working as a Professional School Counselor for Knox County Schools since August 2020. I have worked at A.L. Lotts Elementary School, South Doyle Middle School, Jefferson County High School, Gibbs Elementary School, Karns High School, Inskip Elementary School, Pleasant Ridge Elementary School, Corryton Elementary School, and Brickey-McCloud Elementary School. I'm really grateful for each school I've gotten to spend time in professionally, but have a special place in my heart for Corryton--there truly is no other school quite like this one!
