This first electric bus purchased by Knox County R-I School District was a pilot project in conjunction with the local electric cooperatives. Our goal was to find out how the bus performs in different terain, weather, and routes. We will also be trying to determine the total cost of ownership of an electric vs. a diesel. Pleased with our experience with the first bus, we applied for more grants and purchased 2 more electric buses that have been in operation sinc April of 2022. The district cost for all 3 electric buses combined was $106,400. We have also applied for 4 more buses through the Clean School Bus Grant, and were awarded these buses. The total cost of the 4 buses and charging infrastructure was $0.00. (Free) Once we receive these buses, we will have a total 7 electric buses. We have a total flee of 15 buses. We are now applying for two more, through the EPA grant.
A big thank you to Lewis County REC, Associated Electric, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, and USDA for you support and contributions to our pilot. This would not have been possible without you.
Our total cost for 7 electric buses, 7 chargers, and installation was, $106,400.00.
