Stage Overview: Moderate exercise including cognitive function
Place 2 objects 25 metres apart
Solo Participant - Run between these objects whilst dribbling a soccer ball or basketball
Paired Participants - Run between these objects whilst passing a ball of your choice
Repeat for 6 efforts
Place 2 objects 25 metres apart
Place 3/4 objects between each end to create a Zig-Zag pattern
Solo Participant - Run between these objects whilst dribbling a soccer ball or basketball
Paired Participants - Run between these objects whilst passing a ball of your choice
Repeat for 6 efforts
Place objects to make rectangle approximately 10x5m
Participant should stand in the middle of the rectangle
Coach or other participant will throw or kick the ball in to random areas of the rectangle
Participant must retrieve the ball and return to the coach/ other participant
Participant should work for one minute and then rest for one minute
Repeat exercise 3 times
Try to use a ball appropriate to the participant's sport. Attempt to recreate movements that are specific to the participants sport. For example; High ball in rugby, bouncing ball in basketball, set shot in volleyball
Participants should not "head" a soccer ball during this exercise.
Participant stands in the middle of a diamond of objects
Coach shouts for participant to move to different points of the diamond
Participant moves to where the coach dictates, coach throws ball to player and receives the ball back. Participant then returns to the middle of the diamond.
Participant works for 40 seconds then takes 20 second rest
Repeat 4 times
On completion of Stage 4, Students are permitted to return to:
Low risk PDHPE practical classes
Sport specific training drills
Resistance training
Cardiovascular activities up to 90% maximum intensity
Until the student has completed their 14-day symptom free period they are not to participate in any contact training or any activities that may result in a collision or body-on-body contact (eg. touch football, small sided games, scrimmage etc)
At the completion of the 14-day symptom free period the student is to see a doctor for medical review, and have the Knox "Concussion Return Form" completed (accessible below). Once completed the form is to be returned to concussions@knox.nsw.edu.au
Upon return of this form the student will be notified that they are able to progress to stage 5.
