Dammika Bandara Herath is a Senior Lecturer in Mass Communication in the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Kelaniya. He began his professional career as a freelance journalist at LAKBIMA, a leading national daily newspaper in Sri Lanka. Later, he worked as a programme presenter and producer at LAKHANDA Radio, a state-owned radio station.
After completing his Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Mass Communication, he joined the academic staff of the University of Kelaniya in 2009 and has since contributed to the fields of communication and media studies. In 2014, he completed his Master of Social Sciences degree with a research project on the objectives and audiences of regional radio in Sri Lanka, focusing on the “Rajarata Sewaya” and “Wayamba Handa” radio stations.
From 2016 to 2019, he served as the coordinator of the Diploma in Mass Communication programme, and since 2019, he has been serving as the coordinator of the Master of Arts in Mass Communication programme. His main areas of academic interest are radio media and communication research. He has also served as a member of the panel of judges for the State Radio Awards, the Swarna Pusthaka Awards, and the Presidential Media Awards.
