Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.
Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar.
Hyperglycemia, or raised blood sugar, is a common effect of uncontrolled diabetes and over time leads to serious damage to many of the body's systems, especially the nerves and blood vessels.
In addition to the effects mentioned, uncontrolled diabetes can also increase the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes.
The persistent high levels of glucose in the blood can lead to the buildup of fatty deposits in the blood vessels, compromising blood flow and increasing the strain on the heart.
Individuals with diabetes are prone to complications such as diabetic retinopathy, a condition that affects the eyes and can lead to blindness if left untreated.
Diabetes management involves not only medication and insulin therapy but also lifestyle modifications such as regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and monitoring blood sugar levels.
Through this project we aim to highlight the impact of various health conditions, lifestyle choices and medical history on the risk and prevalence of diabetes, and key indicators and various conditions associated with diabetes in a diverse population dataset.
