Theatre Arts Level 1 is a year round course that provides the basic skills of vocal technique, stage directions and physical movement that actors must know to perform on the stage. Our class is a combination of essential vocabulary that builds confidence and knowledge of theatre while putting our learned skills into practice with performance based projects through improvisation and scripted material.
Students will learn vocal techniques through individual performances of poetry and prose using a performance binder. Learning to work as a team is the very core of working in theatre. We will perform group scripted scenes in Reader’s Theatre and Group Scripted Scenes. All students will have an opportunity to audition for Drama Dogs to competition district wide in prepared acting pieces. We attend 2 tournaments in the fall semester and students will have an opportunity to practice twice a week after school with our Intermediate and Advanced Theatre students.
As students move into the physicality of learning stage directions, they will learn pantomime and perform in a group for Lip Sync using a variety of dance and movement skills. ALL Theatre Students are in invited to audition and participate in our Spring Lip Sync Show for the community. We will prepare in class, Bulldog and have 2 weeks of after school rehearsals.
Memorization is one of the hardest elements for students to conquer in theatre arts. We work on teaching techniques of committing scripted pieces to memory through storytelling, monologues and duet acting performances.
We will dive into dramatic structure through reading a play and prepping technical elements along with short group scenes or playwrite through photographs productions. Finally, we explore the world of Puppetry and the media arts through Commercial Creations.
Theatre Arts 1 will build your confidence, let you explore your creative side and bring out your imagination through acting and improvisation. We would love to have you be part of the Ulrich Theatre Department.
Theatre Arts II/Intermediate focuses on the practical application of acting and theatre concepts and skills introduced in the Theatre Arts I (Beginning/Introduction).
