SIGN UP TO DELIVER FOURTH OF JULY FLAGS!
The Fifth Grade Strings Program in Klein ISD is a great opportunity for young students to get exposure to the string family of instruments. Classes are held twice a week on campus before school and teaches students to play one of the four string instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello and Bass!
Important Things to Know:
Registration is NOW CLOSED
Due to the limited class size, students will be selected based on teacher recommendation. Selected students will be notified via email and/or Remind.
Parents of selected students must attend a Mandatory Parent Meeting. This information will be sent to those that have been selected t be in the program. At this meeting, students will be sized for their instrument choice and we will collect the program fee of $30. It is very important for your child to get correctly measured for their chosen instrument. Please do not obtain an instrument until your child has been sized.
Strings class will meet from 7:05 – 7:50 AM on Wednesdays and Fridays in the Fox gym.
The district does not provide instruments to the students. Instead, we ask that parents rent the instruments from a KISD approved music dealer. The most important reason to rent is that students this age need smaller sized instruments and will quickly grow into larger sizes. The music rental companies will upgrade the size over time at no extra charge.
Classes at Fox will begin on Wednesday, September 21.
Violin (v eye - oh -lin): the highest voiced instrument in the string family. It is also the smallest instrument.
Viola (vee - oh - la): slightly bigger and lower than the violin. It is the alto voice of the string family.
Cello (chell-oh): much bigger than the viola or violin. The player must sit down to play this instrument. It is the tenor voice of the string family.
Bass (base): the largest and lowest sounding instrument of the string family. The player uses a stool to play the bass. It is the bass voice of the string family.
String instruments are sized to the player. No matter if you are tall or short, big or small, you can play any of the string instruments! There is no size requirement.
It is important to the instrument is properly sized to the student. An instrument that is too big can cause pain and will be harder to play.
Some people know right away which instrument they want to play!
The most important thing is to listen to the sound of the instrument. Do you like higher pitched sounds or lower pitched sounds? Listen to each instrument carefully to decide. The key to success is to pick the sound that YOU like. Not what your best friend likes.
Remember--the instrument is sized to YOU, so there is no need to worry about something being too big.
