The music department at Klein Collins is proud to offer this service to the community. Six times a year, students and parents volunteer their time to deliver flags to our subscribers in celebration of American pride!
The orchestra is in charge delivering and picking up flag routes. We need your help!
Our flag delivery service is made up of about 1,600 community members who have purchased a subscription to have a ten foot flag placed in their yard on six patriotic holidays throughout the year. The cycle runs from Memorial Day to President’s Day.
Flags are ten feet tall. You will need an SUV, truck, or large car
Gloves
Hammer
Water
2-3 people
You will pick up your flag route envelopes (maps and addresses) from the band garage located in the Klein Collins bus lot. There will be a box labeled “orchestra”. Look for the name of the route you signed up for.
If you signed up for a Normandy Forest or Windsor Forest route, EVERY HOUSE gets a flag
Collect the correct number of flags (this number is on the envelope) and put them in your car. Count them carefully so you don’t have to come back!
It’s best if there are at least three people: one to drive, one to navigate, and a third to put out the flags
Find the flag marker on the curb at each address.
The PVC pipe sleeve for the flag should be directly behind the marker – you may have to clear some grass or dirt from the top of the sleeve.
If there is no PVC pipe, then you must use rebar to display flag, choose the best position considering landscaping, hammer 1/3 of rebar into ground and put the flag on the rebar. If the ground is dry, you may have to pour a little water on the ground prior to hammering the rebar.
Unroll the flag – leave the rubber band on the flagpole OR put it in the envelope – you’ll need it again for pick up.
Put a check mark on each address after you deliver the flag
If you have a couple of extra flags leftover, you may store them at your house or bring them back to the school (if someone is still there).
KEEP THE MAP AND ROUTE IN THE ENVELOPE FOR PICKUP. You do not need to come back to the school.
Use your route checklist to make sure you go to the correct addresses
Roll the flag neatly around the pole
Use the rubber band to hold the flag in place.
When you return to the band garage, check in with the students/director working there and place your flag route envelope back into the box labeled “orchestra”.
Store flags carefully so they are neatly stacked in the storage racks. Helpers will assist you.
NEVER, EVER FOR ANY REASON ALLOW THE FLAG TO TOUCH THE GROUND!
Do not stack, drop, place for loading or unloading on the ground.
