The Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) is a placement exam that assesses a student's readiness for college-level courses in English and math. It's required for all new degree-seeking students at public colleges and universities in Texas.
Purpose:
Determine if a student is ready for college-level courses
Identify the appropriate starting level for new students
WHAT IS ON THE TSI TEST?
The Mathematics College Readiness Classification (CRC) Test portion contains 20 questions in 4 content categories:
Quantitative Reasoning (6 Questions)
Algebraic Reasoning (7 Questions)
Geometric & Spatial Reasoning (3 Questions)
Probabilistic & Statistical Reasoning (4 Questions)
If you don’t meet the college readiness benchmark, you’ll be routed to the multiple-choice Mathematics Diagnostic Test. This test provides you with a second opportunity to demonstrate your readiness in mathematics. The Mathematics Diagnostic Test is made up of 48 questions 4 content categories:
Quantitative Reasoning (12 Questions)
Algebraic Reasoning (12 Questions)
Geometric & Spatial Reasoning (12 Questions)
Probabilistic & Statistical Reasoning (12 Questions)
The ELAR College Readiness Classification Test portion contains 30 questions in 2 content categories:
Reading-Focused (15 Questions)
Literary Text Analysis (4)
Informational Text Analysis and Synthesis (11)
Writing Focused (15 Questions)
Essay Revision and Editing (4)
Sentence Revision, Editing, and Completion (11)

The Essay Test requires you to write a 300-600 word essay in response to a randomly selected prompt. Your score is based on the following six qualities:
Purpose and Focus
The extent to which you present information in a unified and coherent manner, clearly addressing the issue.
Organization and Structure
The extent to which you order and connect ideas.
Development and Support
The extent to which you develop and support ideas.
Sentence Variety and Style
The extent to which you craft sentences and paragraphs demonstrating control of vocabulary, voice, and structure.
Mechanical Conventions
The extent to which you express ideas using Standard English conventions.
Critical Thinking
The extent to which you communicate a point of view and demonstrate reasoned relationships among ideas.
