The student, parent/guardian are all considered CONTRIBUTORS for the FAFSA.
If the student starts the FAFSA application first, they will need the parent/guardian's social security number, DOB, and email in order to invite them into the application.
If the parents starts the FAFSA application first, they will need the student's social security number, DOB, and email in order to invite them into the application.

There are basically three types of federal financial aid:

Grants - financial aid that does not have to be paid back.
Work Study Programs - jobs for students that help them meet educational expenses.
Loans - money that must be paid back with interest.
