Week of September 8-11

Math: This week, students will focus on rounding to estimate sums and differences. You may hear your child say "ARF" a lot this week - always round first before adding or subtracting.  On Friday, students will begin learning how to represent addition and subtraction in strip diagrams.

Science:  Students will be reviewing the States of Matter for our upcoming 2nd CCA (Thursday 9/10)

Social Studies: Our communities unit movies into understanding what it means to be a good citizen. 

Reading: 

Week of August 31- September 4

Math: This week, students will focus on rounding to estimate sums and differences. You may hear your child say "ARF" a lot this week - always round first before adding or subtracting.  On Friday, students will begin learning how to represent addition and subtraction in strip diagrams.

Science:  Students will be describing and classifying different forms of matter based on characteristics of each form - solids, liquids and gases.

Social Studies: We continue comparing different (urban, suburban and rural) communities and how they meet their needs. 

Reading: Students will continue learning parts of a non-fiction text and text structure of a non-fiction text. We will also take MAP test Tuesday, September 1.

Week of August 24-28

Math: This week students will learn to compare and order whole numbers up to 100,000.  Students will also learn how to determine where a number will go on a number between multiples of 10,100,1,000 and 10,000.

We will review for our CCA on Thursday and take our first CCA on Friday, August 28

Science: We review the beginning of our unit on Matter and its Physical Properties with our first Assessment on Wednesday 8/26.

Social Studies: We continue comparing different (urban, suburban and rural) communities and how they meet their needs. 

Reading: Students will begin learning parts of a non-fiction text and text structure of a non-fiction text.

Week of August 17-21

Math: This week students begin composing and decomposing numbers up to 100,000 using objects, pictorial models and expanded notion. 

Science: We begin our unit on Physical Properties and Matter this week. 

Social Studies: We will start the year off by learning to compare different communities and how they meet their needs. 

Reading: Students will begin learning how to make connections to different texts, making an inference and evaluating details to determine the key ideas within a text.
