Description
Your Money, Your Life is a two-term personal finance course that follows the story of your own life, told in the order life will send it to you.
The course is not examined and there is no textbook. Instead, students do the finding out: researching real bank accounts and scholarships, filing a simulated tax return, negotiating a salary, and visiting a real bank branch on a research mission. It ends with a two-week "Game of Life" simulation from graduation to age 30.
Objective(s)
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- manage their own money independently at university, in Malaysia or overseas:
- build and revise a realistic budget from their own data,
- choose and open the right bank account,
- protect themselves from scams and money mules,
- understand a contract, payslip, EPF statement and tax return,
- use credit without being used by it, and start saving and investing early with a healthy suspicion of anything that sounds too good to be true.
Who should sign up?
Y12 and Y13 students of any subject combination. The course is designed for everyone who will one day earn, spend, borrow and save, which is everyone. It is particularly useful for students leaving home for university within the next two years.
Prerequisite:
None. No Business or Economics background is needed, and the maths never goes beyond a calculator.
The ability to find a solution to a situation or challenge
The ability to set clear, tangible goals and devise a robust route to achieving them
A structured visit to a real Malaysian bank branch near the end of the course

Completed field-visit workbooks feed directly into the final capstone simulation.
