Description
CREST is a scheme that inspires young people to think and behave like scientists and engineers.
Objective(s)
The Gold level is designed to stretch you. It is a long-term (70+ hours), in-depth projects that are run by the students themselves. In this academic year, our project focus is AI + Energy Efficiency Project. CREST Gold can be used to enhance your UCAS personal statements.
Who should sign up?
Aspiring scientists and engineers, or those who would like to improve their teamwork and problem solving skills.
Duration: 2 Periods
Prerequisite:
See below for Subject Knowledge and Technical Skills.
Attitude to problem solve and dedicated to working as a team.
Only shortlisted candidates will be enrolled based on an internal selection process - apply before 9th September 2026

The award demands strong research, planning, and problem-solving skills. As a nationally recognized award, project quality must meet rigorous criteria. Selection helps identify students who are prepared for this level of independent work.

Aim: To research, design, and prototype a biomimetic assistive technology solution that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals while achieving the Crest Gold Award standard.
Success indicators:
HIS STEAM Fair (February 2027)
Crest Gold Award (submission July 2027)
Published article in a journal
Criteria:
Completed IGCSE Product design or Engineering, or Biology or Computer science (modeling)
Skills required within the team: 3D modeling software skills, 3D printing, computational modeling, research skills, referencing skills, collaboration, eye for detail, able to work under tight deadlines, resourceful, independent, self-motivated.
Must also be able to stay back after school for additional workshop/lab time. Able to invest 70 hours of logged work minimum.
Fill in Google Form and Complete a written Assessment: A single page A4 size essay with at least 3 relevant references; 11 point Arial font, with Harvard style referencing and in-text citation (Cite them Right).
Submit by 9th September 2026, 11.59pm.
