Sierra Leoneans are known for their resilience. Almost all adults in the country today have had first-hand experience of the prolonged civil war.  They have been through generations of oppression. Despite having survived  these challenges, they are building back a nurturing society. The country is also known for its rich works of art and literature. People here value relationships and having a sense of community.

Challenges that inhibit a thriving life

How does this show up in schools? 

Children struggle with low motivation to learn. They need a safe environment that acknowledges and develops their whole selves. Absenteeism is high due to poor health. Many do not have strong relationships with adults. The caregiver's involvement in the learning and development of their children is low. Classroom sizes are large with varied learning levels. Teachers find it difficult to cater to diverse needs. Teachers need support in developing the right skills and dispositions to support the learners better.
