Mrs. Turn's Classroom Website
Your Voice Matters
Welcome to my classroom. We may be studying English while in this classroom, but it is my goal that you will be learning much more than just how to read and write. The space will be a safe space where you can share your understandings, ideas, and insights amongst peers who will respect and encourage you. I will accept nothing but thoughtful consideration and treatment of me, your peers, and yourself. Judgment and marginalization have no place in our classroom (or anywhere for that matter). We are here together to work and grow to be the best students, scholars, and human beings that we can each be. Let's help each other in that worthy endeavor!
"She read books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live." --Annie Dillard
About me
I graduated from:
Kittson Central High School
Concordia College, Moorhead (B.A. English Literature)
Bemidji State University (B.S. Communication Arts & Literature & Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching)
St. Cloud State University (Driver Ed.)
Southwest Minnesota State University (M.A. in Education with an emphasis in English)
I LOVE reading, writing, and learning, and I LOVE to do those things with my students. I am also passionate about sports, particularly volleyball, which I have coached for 25 years. I enjoy photography, and you will often see me around the school or at school events with a camera as I am the school yearbook advisor. I also enjoy seeing different sides of students as both the Knowledge Bowl coach and the driver's education instructor. I also am passionate about traveling, especially its value to a well-rounded education, and I'm thrilled to lead Kittson County students and residents on KC EF Tours around the globe.
It's a busy life, but it's a good life. When I'm not taking care of my many school responsibilities, I'm taking care of my family of six. Jon and I have been married for 27 years, and we have four daughters: Lexi (4th year Optometry student at Midwestern University Grad School in Glendale, AZ), Marlee (last semester at Gustavus), Morgan (senior at KC), and Brenna (freshman at KC).
"Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it, you can never get it back." —Harvey MacKay
