William Jasper

Colonel William Jasper is remembered for his actions in World War II. In 1940, as GMC Cadet Captain and Company Commander, he entered the United States Military Academy at West Point. Usually West point takes 4 years but the sudden demand for officers let him graduate in 1943. William was married a month after he graduated from West Point. He was a Second Lieutenant and a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He flew his first airplane at age 11, and during the years of West Point he had learned to fly an airplane. In 1944 during the war his older brother Darwin was shot down and killed in Italy while flying a Nightfighter. Five months later, William was assigned B-17G and in October he was assigned to his first mission.
