Robert A. Rulis

Robert A. Rulis was born February 8, 1928 in Vandergrift, and was the son of Charles and Alexandra (Poskus) Rulis. He was the second youngest of the 12 children from the very tight-knit family. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diane Kay Brower Rulis: two daughters from his first marriage, Ines Rulis Barlerin and Suzanne Rulis de Barr, and five grandchildren, Sebastien, Maximilian, and INes Alexandra Barlerin and Isabel and Jackson Barr; and three sisters Modesta Rulis of Pittsburgh, Irene Hansen (Kjeld) of Denmark, and Eleanor Young of Vandergrift; and various nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Casmere, Telesford, Walter, Edward and Richard Rulis; and sisters Placida, Zenida, and Maria Rulis. 

Robert A. Rulis always dreamed as a young child to be a fighter pilot. In 1949, he joined the Navy as a sea recruit and earned his wings at Pensacola, Florida flying Corsairs. He then retired 20 years after being in the rank of commander in 1969. His service consisted of the places of Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and South America while being stationed in Morocco, Spain, Italy, Washington D.C., Chile, and Omaha, Nebraska. While being a commander in the Navy, he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Award in the South Atlantic. 

Coming up to his retirement from military service, he spent 15 years in oil and gas exploration and commercial real estate development. Then, engaged in private enterprise in Colorado, where he ended up passing. After retiring, he and his wife decided to motor home through the United States and some of Canada. The two ended their journey in Denver, Colorado. In downtown Colorado, he owned various buildings for which he had patents. He then passed on October 17, 2012. He was then buried in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Cemetery.
