Peter S. Turano

Peter S Turano was born Jan 2, 1922. Peter was the son of Antonio and Carolina. He had four siblings, his brother Frank ,and sisters Carmella, Clara, and Dora. Peter was a graduate of Vandergrift Area High School in 1939 and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in 1948. Peter worked at the Taruno Family Drug Store in Vandergrift. In WWII he was a Tech 4 sergeant in the medics. Peter ran a MASH Unit leading 40 men. Turano was a Pittsburgh sports fan and was also enjoyed magic, fishing, golfing, making, and fixing or repairing things for his family. Peter also was a Frank Sinatra fan. After the war he was co-owner of the 5th Avenue Pharmacy in New Kensington for 35 years until its closing in 1992. Peter was a grandfather of 13 when he passed away on Jan 13 2012 with his family at his bed side. While he did pass away he is remembered for his good-nature and being one of four founding members of the Alle-Kiski NAMI support group.
