James P. Morgante

James D. "Jimmy" Morgante, 79, of Gilpin Township, died Wednesday afternoon, May 1, 2013, at Fair Winds Manor, Winfield Township, Butler County. Born May 18, 1933, in Vandergrift, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Caroline (Vetro) Morgante. Jimmy was the husband of Janet G. (Albino) Morgante for 47 years. Employed as a baker before retiring in 2008, he worked for Shop N Save supermarket in Butler for eight years. Previously, he was a baker for Corcetti Bakery in Apollo, Serene's Bakery in Leechburg, and the Dixon Bakery, also in Leechburg. Before entering the service, he was a counterman for Julian's Drug Store in Vandergrift. 

A graduate of Vandergrift High School, Jimmy served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Christ the King Parish in Gilpin Township, the Vandergrift VFW, and the former Italian Club in Vandergrift. Jimmy loved to talk with his family and friends and was very devoted to his family. He was a true friend to all who knew him. 

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: a sister, Mary Breznican, of Vandergrift; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Madeline Napoli, of Schenley, John Albino, also of Schenley, and Harriet and Tom Walker, of Orlando, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews, especially his niece, Joanne Moyer, of Vandergrift. Besides his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his brothers, Lawrence, Richard and Charles Morgante, and Samuel Vetro; sisters, Jenny Polito, Evelyn Kovalik, Antoinette Lizik, and Rose Gerano. He also was preceded in death by his brother-in-law and best friend, Robert Napoli, who died Jan. 24, 2013.
