Michael D. Zemba

Private Michael David Zemba was born on August 2, 1931 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to Andrew and Catherine Zemba. He had one brother and one sister. He enlisted in the Army Air Force on February 18, 1943, at the age of nineteen. He was listed as having semiskilled occupations in manufacture of electrical machinery and accessories. He served as Private Michael Zemba in Japan during the Korean war.

Michael Zemba was married to his wife, Dorothy J. Shick Zemba for forty-two years. They had six children (three daughters and three sons) nineteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. 

He was a member of the American Legion Post 0114 of Vandergrift. He was also a member of Saint Gertrude Roman Catholic Church in Vandergrift. For more than forty-three years, Mr. Zemba was employed by United States Steel, and then Allegheny Ludlum as a pipe fitter, foreman, and journeyman. After retiring, he worked for ten years a transfer driver for U-Haul. At the age of eighty-two, Michael Zemba Sr. passed away in Vandergrift on August 13, 2013. 

Private Michael Zemba has served both his community and his country for many years. He will be remembered for his service and bravery while fighting in the Korean War.
