McCune, Richard *

Richard "Dick" H. McCune, 89, of Butler,PA passed away peacefully March 23,2017 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Fla., surrounded by his wife, Louise Folland, and four children. 

Dick was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy,serving aboard the destroyer USS Gainard. He spent his 18th birthday in Tokyo, Japan, as part of the U.S. occupation forces. 

Following World War II, he returned to finish high school, graduating from Butler High in 1948.

Dick played football for the Butler Cubs and attended Bowling Green University on a football scholarship, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1953. On June 13, 1953, he married his college sweetheart, Louise Folland, and they spent more than 63 years of marriage together. 

Dick was active in youth sports, managing the Dight's baseball team in the Butler Prep League and was a member of the Butler Basketball Boosters and the Butler Quarterback Club, where he served as president in 1975. 

After retirement, Dick and Louise wintered at Outdoor Resorts in Melbourne Beach, Fla., where he had many friends, organized numerous social events and was always the life of the party. He enjoyed playing handball, golf, boccie, shuffleboard and bridge. He loved to teach his grandchildren how to play poker. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Butler. 

Dick is survived by his wife, Louise; his sons, Mike (Heidi) McCune of Plymouth, Mass., Judge Tim (Patty) McCune of Butler, and Bill (Sue) McCune of Lancaster, Pa.; his daughter, Patti (Steve) Grogan of Holland Patent, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Mike McCune of Seattle, Wash., Evan McCune of Los Angeles, Calif., Brooke and Katie Belden of Plymouth, Mass., Matthew (Alexandra) McCune, Esq., of Butler, Brett Grogan of Syracuse, N.Y., Carl Patrick McCune Grogan of Camden, N.Y., Zachary and Nathan McCune and Tyler and Kayla Reiff of Lancaster, Pa.; his great-grandson Benjamin Matthew McCune, who made Dick so proud to have him carry on the McCune name; his sister, Joyce Marnic of Butler; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 

He was predeceased by his parents, W.H. "Doc" and Mary McCune; his sister, Alathea Hildebrand; his nephew, Tim Hildebrand; and nieces Linda Hildebrand Davis and Lisa Marnic Seubert. 

MCCUNE - The family of Richard "Dick" H. McCune, who died Thursday, March 23, 2017, will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. May 5 at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. May 6 at First Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler.
