Lonny Wells

Sergeant Lonny D. Wells is remembered for his actions during the war with Iraq.  Born on January 10, 1975 in Kittanning Hospital, he was loved by everyone around him.  From an early age, he was always interested in the military. His mother wanted him to be a model but he had his mind set on being a Marine.  The 1994 graduate of Kiski Area High School served in France, Kosovo, Spain, and Germany. Lonny was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 3rd Platoon, B Company, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force. On November 9, 2004, upon traveling to Baghdad, he was killed after being shot while on patrol in Fallujah. Gunnery Sergant Ryan Shane tried heroically to save Lonnie, but was himself wounded.  

Sgt. Wells earned the following awards for his service... Awards: 2 Meritorious Unit Commendations, 2 Certificates of Commendation (individual awards), Letter of Appreciation, 2 Meritorious Mast, 2 Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, 3 Overseas Service Ribbons, NATO Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Purple Heart 

Lonny was in the Marines for 8 years before his untimely death, leaving his seven month daughter without a father.  He was twenty-nine years old.
