Joseph L. Collini

Joseph L. Collini was a World War II veteran born in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania on January 16, 1926 to Aldo and Elisa Collini. He served as part of the Navy Seabees at age 19, and he was part of their great effort at the European Theater in March 1945. During this significant time, the Seabees had operated landing carries to break the barrier of the Germans in the Rhine River for the U.S. Army. The Seabees carried out this task in quick succession and seemingly with ease. Collini enjoyed doing electrical work, and he was an electrician for Wean United, Vandergrift. He was also a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic church, the Volunteer Fire Department, and the American Softball Association as an umpire for 30 years. After retiring in 1979, he became the custodian of his church. He died in his home on November 21, 2007 and was at the time survived by his wife, 3 sons, 2 daughters, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews. Collini lived in Vandergrift for the entirety of his life.
