Joseph J. Polka, 78, of North Vandergrift, died Friday, June 12, 2009, in his residence, with his family by his side. Born Jan. 13, 1931, in East Vandergrift, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary Milanik Polka, and had lived in the area all of his life. A Korean War veteran, he served in the Air Force. He had been employed by U.S. Steel in Vandergrift as a laborer, until the time of his retirement. Mr. Polka was a member of the VFW and a life member of the Firemen's Club, both in Vandergrift, and Slovak Club in Parks Township.
