Joseph G. DiGiacomo

Joseph G. DiGiacomo was a captain in the United States Navy who graduated from the Naval Academy with the class of 1953. He was born on November 17, 1929 in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. In his 23 years of serving in the Navy, DiGiacomo was a defense contractor, a nuclear warfare concepts coordinator, and a submarine submarine commander, the most famous one that he commanded being the USS Torsk from 1968. After retiring from the Navy in 1976, DiGiacomo joined Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) to develop cruise missiles, then moved on to be the business manager of SAI Technology. 

DiGiacomo died on May 16, 2011 in Rockford, Illinois at the age of 81. His death occurred while he was in a assisted living facility and was caused by a heart ailment. Although his wife passed away in 2002 and his son in 1986, DiGiacomo is survived by his daughter, brother, 4 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is buried at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia right beside his wife.
