John T. Bertetto 

John was born in  Vanderfrift, Pennsulvania, on September 3, 1922 and passed away on February 13, 2015.  He did while he was 92 with the seven out of eleven children, all from around the world, by his side supporting his mother in this hard time.  

John graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1941 and managed to return to Pennsylvania for several of his reunions. If you were John’s friend you were a friend for life. He kept in close contact with his dear high school friends who loved his wonderful letters. 

John also loved to dance. A special thanks to Lucy, Eleanor, and niece Margaret for making those trips such treasured memories.

John started his military career in the Army Air Corp, which sent him to Italy during the WWII as an aircraft mechanic. He spent 21 years with the Army in many different roles from supply sergeant to missile technician. The Army sent him and his family all over the US from Alaska to Texas to Virginia. He then worked for the Long Beach Gas Dept for 14 years. He also did watch repair and barbering on the side often doing 2 or 3 jobs at a time.

The army sent John to California for training where he met the love of his life “Betty’. He married Betty Weir in 1945 and they had 11, yes 11 children. They were also married for 70 years. 

For 60 years, John and Betty lived all over the U.S. but mainly in Long Beach and lastly 16 years in Leisure World, Seal Beach California.
