John Norwin Wherry

John Norwin Wherry was born on September 6, 1898 in Apollo, Pennsylvania. His parents were Byron and Sarah Wherry. He was a part of a big family and was one of six children. He attended Vandergrift High School before he was drafted to serve in the army in 1914 at the age of 16 and became a member of Ambulance Company #3 of  Division 1 Infantry. He fought in World War I until it claimed his life on December 16, 1918 at the age of 20. He died in Germany along with many other brave soldiers who fought for our country. John Norwin Wherry never married but was loved by his five siblings and family. He was buried in the Vandergrift Cemetery, the town where he and his family resided before John was drafted.
