John C. Drummond

John Clair Drummond was born in 1897, Vandergrift PA. At 14 he ran away from home, claiming that his father was abusive. He was taken in by a family and worked at that family's farm until he was 16. This is when he lied about his age and entered the US Merchant Marine, serving on the USS Washington, a troop ship. He quickly rose in rank, testing at every opportunity presented. When it was learned that he was the wrong John Drummond that was supposed to be promoted. He was returned to the rank of Seaman. When he was demoted he walked away from the service never to return.
