John A. Summerville
John A. Summerville was born in Vandergrift on April 20, 1924. At the age of nineteen on March 24, 1943 Summerville enlisted in the war. At the time Summerville had enlisted he had an education level of 2 years of high school. He was a private in the selectees and a part of the U.S. Army Air Corps that served in the South Pacific during World War II. John A. Summerville survived his time in battle and returned home to Vandergrift, where he was a part of the American Legion Post and the VFW. Summerville passed away on August 30, 2011 and his grave now resides in Greenwood Memorial Park.
